Bears Hold Off Crusaders to Win Home Opener

The Bartram Trail Bears were back in action at home on Friday against the Bishop Kenny Crusaders.  Fresh off their win at Providence the Bears had another great performance  on the mound from Mike Cassala and stellar defense by the Bears. Cassala went 6 innings, fanning 14, walking only one and scattering 6 hits. The Crusaders only run was unearned. The Bears collect 4 hits and 3 runs to lift them past the Crusaders at home with a 3-1 win.

The Bears took an early 2-0 lead in the first after a sacrifice fly by Blake Marabell that scored Mike Cassala from 3rd and Tanner Murphy’s fielder choice which scored Wade Ledford.

Bartram would get one more run in the 3rd to take a 3-0 lead. The Crusaders got on the board in the 5th to cut the lead to 3-1. Patrick Tybor  came in for the 7th inning to record the final three outs for the Bears to get the save.

Mike Cassala extends his hitting streak to 14 games, passing Connor Marabell. Cassala is 10 hits shy of setting a new school record.

The Bears return to action on February 17th at Atlantic Coast, first pitch is scheduled for 6:30 pm.
