Panthers vs Bears Game Recap

Bears hold on to beat Nease 3-0, 1-0 in District.

Fresh off their dramatic win on Monday against Oakleaf, the Bartram Trail Bears opened up District play on Wednesday at home, hosting the Nease Panthers. The Bears would shut down the Panthers in the first inning and begin the bottom of the inning with a lead off single by Mike Cassala. Cassala would steal second and advance to third on a wild pitch. Cassala would score on a passed ball. Wade Ledford would walk in his at bat and then steal second to get in scoring position. After a balk by the Panthers pitcher which sent Ledford to third, Jon Cassala would hit a groundball to second base, scoring Ledford and giving the Bears an early 2-0 lead.  The Bears get a run in the second inning with bases loaded and a Jon Cassala walk, scoring Patrick Tybor extending the Bears lead to 3-0.  The Bears would then rely heavily on their pitching and defense the rest of the way.

The Bears were paced by Jarrod Davenport on the mound. Davenport would surrender four hits, walk three and strike out one in his third outing on the season. Davenport would get into the sixth and begin the six inning with a lead off walk. The Bears would bring in relieve Tyler Emmett to get the Bears out of the sixth. Emmett would strike out the first batter and then get a groundball double play to Ledford to end the sixth. Emmett would go back out in the seventh, but after a lead off walk, the Bears would bring in Tybor to record the final three outs of the game. Tybor would walk the first Panthers hitter to now give runners at first and second. After striking out the next Panthers hitter, Tybor would get a groundball fielders choice to Cassala at shortstop. With two outs and the tying run at the plate, Tybor would end the game striking out the last Panthers hitter to seal the 3-0 victory. The Bears now improve to 6-0 on the season and 1-0 in district play.

The Bears will be back in action at Nease on Thursday, February 26th. Game time is set for 6:30 PM.
