Once the applications for the scholarships listed in this newsletter are received they are available in the Guidance Office. Many of the applications are also available on the individual scholarship websites. The names of the scholarships currently available are then posted on the Bartram website www-bths.stjohns.k12.fl.us under the Guidance section and the school's blue screen.  The applications for the scholarships usually arrived at least two months before the deadline.

Selected School scholarships: At most colleges, scholarships are available to incoming freshman. The awards are based on GPA, ACT/SAT scores and extracurricular activities. Also, scholarships are available to students who demonstrate special talent in a certain area. For example: drama, athletics, music, etc. Award amounts and deadlines vary. Students should check with the school they are planning to attend to find out application deadlines etc. This information is available at the school's website in the financial aid/scholarships section.

The Bright Futures Scholarship application cannot be completed until December. This application can be found at www.floridastudentfinancialaid.org. This is also the website for information on Florida's Financial Aid programs. Information about a student's Bright Futures GPA can be found at www.facts.org. The Bright Futures weighted GPA is NOT the same as the Bartram weighted GPA. The Bartram weighted GPA includes all classes but the Bright Futures weighted GPA includes only specific classes.
The weight given these classes is also different.   

The application for Federal Financial Aid is available January 1st each year at www.fafsa.ed.gov this is the site where students apply for Pell Grants, etc. Many colleges require this application to be completed.
www.fastweb.com is an excellent site for information on more scholarships.

Coca-Cola Scholars Foundation Scholarship Program: Foundation has committed $3 million dollars to students. Recipients are well-rounded individuals with highly developed interests in their community. Applicants are evaluated on the following: leadership in school, commitment to community, academic achievement, and part-time employment. Students must apply online. Go to www.coca-colascholars.org , click on apply online, then four year awards for seniors. (BTHS CEEB Code 100809) Deadline: October

2008 Prudential Spirit of Community Awards: These awards recognize students in grades 6th-12th who have demonstrated exemplary community service. BTHS is allowed to nominated two students to the state-level judging panel. Applications are available online. Deadline: October (Completed applications must be turned in to Guidance by this date). 2007 SAE Engineering Scholarships: These scholarships are either corporate sponsored or University sponsored.The University of Florida has a $1000 scholarship and Embry Riddle has a $12,000 scholarship. Scholarship application and information is available at www.sae.org/students/engschlr.htm Deadline: December

The JCI Senators of Florida Foundation, Inc. Three $10,000 scholarships to high school graduates who attend a college or vocational school full time. Applications and additional information can be found at www.floridajcisenate.org   Deadline: February

The McCurry Founation,Inc. Scholarship Foundation: Scholarship selection committee accepts applications from all interested seniors attending a St Johns county public high school along with students from nearby counties. Applicant must have a minimum 3.0gpa and employment experience will be considered. Applications are available in guidance. Deadline: February

Pepsi Bottling Group Minority Scholarship Fund: Scholarships will be awarded to minority seniors who are planning to enroll in a College or University in the fall. Students must have a minimum unweighted GPA 2.5. Deadline: September 1

First Coast Hispanic Chamber of Commerce: " Achieve the Dream" These scholarships will be awarded to Hispanic students that are not more than third generation Hispanic and have maintained residence in the Florida First Coast for at least three years, and have a 3.0GPA or better. Scholarships are awarded based on Academic grades, Honors and Awards, Extracurricular Activities, and the Essay. Deadline: September   

DECA Scholarships: Scholarship opportunities for DECA members. www.DECA.org

Florida State University Service Scholar Program: Scholarships to incoming freshmen that have demonstrated excellence in service and leadership.  www.fsu.edu/-service/servschol.html

Florida Community College at Jacksonville: Variety of scholarships.  Deadlines vary.

Horatio Alger State Scholarship Programs: Students must have a minimum GPA of a 2.0, and require financial assistance to go to college. For more information go to www.horatioalger.org/scholarships

Southern Scholarship Foundations Scholarship-Housing Program: If you are planning to attend FSU, UF, FAMU, Bethune-Cookman, or Florida Gulf Coast University (women only) you may be interested in a work-scholarship that provides rent-free housing. Information and applications at www.southernscholarship.org or 1-800-253-2769

University of North Florida Guaranteed Scholarship: By meeting the criteria students automatically qualify for this scholarship. All materials must be on file by the deadline. The deadline for priority scholarship consideration is November. www.unf.edu

Wal-Mart Stores Inc. Sam Walton Community Scholarships: This scholarship is available online from Nov.1- January www.walmartfoundation.org  To apply go to www.scholarshipadministartors.net  Access code SWCS

Stetson University Lawson Scholarship: Preference to students who intend to major in philosophy or a related field of humanities. (BTHS may nominate two students) Resume must be turned in to Guidance by November.

Toyota Community Scholars Program: 100 young men and women to receive scholarships valued at $10,000 -$20,000. Candidate must have an outstanding academic record, demonstrated school leadership, and have a commitment to community service. (BTHS is allowed to nominate one student) Applications are available in Guidance. December.

Jasper Links Scholarship Writing Contest: Application can be found at www.contest.jasperlinks.com Deadline: November

Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation Scholarships: Students must be the children of a parent who has died from breast cancer, exhibit financial need, meet high academic standards and plan to attend a state-supported college. For more information and an application contact sdanhauser@bellsouth.net or call the foundation at 904-448-7446. Deadline: November

National Association of Secondary School Principals and Herff Jones,Principal Leadership Award: Candidates should be in the top 20% of the senior class, and demonstrate leadership. Program will award 100 scholarships of $1000 each. BTHS may only nominate one candidate. Applications for seniors who are interested in being considered for the nomination are available in Guidance. Completed applications must be turned in to Guidance by November to be considered as the representative from Bartram.

Northeast Florida Chapter, Florida Engineering Society Engineering Scholarship:
Candidates must major in engineering, minimum 3.0gpa, and a minimum 1100 SAT score. www.fleng.org  Deadline: December

AXA Achievement Scholarship: Students should be well rounded, determined to succeed and demonstrated achievement at a job, sport or extracurricular activity. Deadline: December   www.axa-achievement.com

Florida Retired Educators Foundation Scholarship: Senior must have demonstrated potential for effectiveness as a future teacher and present evidence of need for financial assistance in attending college. The scholarship can be continued for a maximum of four years. Amount: $500.00 Deadline: December

Third Annual 2006 Boselli Award of Excellence: The Toyota Gator Bowl Celebrate Youth Fellowship will be awarding two $2000 scholarships. They will be selecting one male and one female student who exemplify character, leadership and integrity. A  Coach, Athletic Director, or Youth Pastor must fill out the evaluation and mail it to the committee. Deadline: December

United States JCI Senate Foundation Scholarships: Each year $1000 Grants are awarded to high school seniors in the United States who plan on continuing their education at accredited post secondary colleges, universities or vocational schools. Deadline: January www.floridajcisenate.org

Stetson University J. Ollie Edmunds Scholarship: Minimum qualifications for this scholarship are 3.5 GPA, SAT 1350 (math and verbal) and class rank top 5%(BTHS may nominate two students) Deadline: January

Arts for a Complete Education/Florida Alliance for Arts Education (ACE/FAAE): Scholarships are awarded on the basis of artistic merit and academic excellence in dance, music, theatre, and visual art. Eligible students are to submit a completed application, essay and work sample. Deadline: January  Application can be found at www.faae.org

Simon Youth Foundation Community Scholarships, St. Augustine Premium Outlets: Variety of areas is considered such as academic record, leadership skills, and financial data. Seniors can obtain the application for the scholarship by visiting guest service at the St. Augustine Premium Outlets or online at www.syf.org Deadline: January

University of Florida Lombardi Scholars Program: Interested students who are planning on attending UF should give a resume to Guidance in January. (BTHS may nominate one student)   www.honors.ufl.edu

Kinsey Leonard Achievement Award: Kinsey Leonard was injured January 7, 2004 and suffered a traumatic brain injury. Several students in the area donated to the "Coins for Kinsey" Campaign to help her family out with miscellaneous expenses. Kinsey and her family were touched by how the community came together to help them during this very difficult time. Because of this, they have started the Kinsey Leonard Achievement Award. This award is for seniors that have suffered a traumatic brain injury and will be graduating this year. This is not a scholarship so the student does not have to be attending college in the fall. This is a cash award to be used however the student wishes. A teacher recommendation and a short essay are required. The application is available in guidance. Deadline: January

Florida Association of State and Federal Educational Program Administrators Scholarship: $1,000.00 Scholarship for Person Entering Studies in The Field of Arts or Sciences in Education. Each winner will be selected based on GPA (minimum 3.0), contribution to society, and financial need. Deadline: February

Kiwanis Club of Historic St Augustine Scholarship: Seniors planning on attending a post secondary institution.  Senior must be of good character, record of community service, and record of extracurricular activities. Amount: $1000.00 PO Box 3063 St Augustine FL 30285  Deadline: February

James (Coach) Day College Scholarship: Senior must be a high school track and field team member of a school participating in the current Bob Hayes Invitational Track and Field Meet. Student must also have a minimum grade point average of a 2.5. Deadline: February Amount: $1,000.00 Applications are available in Guidance or at [ http://www.bhitm.org ]www.bhitm.org

Florida Minerals and Chemistry Council Scholarship: Student must write two essays on the subjects provided. A teacher recommendation and a minimum score of 1000 (math and verbal) on the SAT is also required. Deadline: February www.fmcc.org

Monsanto Commitment to Agriculture Scholarship Program: Student must be pursuing a career in agriculture. Deadline: February  www.monsanto.com

North East Florida Engineer's Week Scholarship Award: Scholarship is intended for seniors pursuing a career in Engineering. Deadline: February

Mayo Clinic- Leo F. Black Health Career Scholarships: Students must be pursuing a career in a health care profession. Programs of study include: nursing, pre-med, pharmacy, PA, radiography, etc. Deadline: March

FAPSC Scholarship Program:  600 scholarships in a wide range of programs leading to high skill, high demand careers. The program areas include business management, computer technology, recording arts, automotive service technology, allied health administration, paralegal studies, therapeutic massage, and many other fields. Programs range from short-term diplomas through four year baccalaureate degrees. Minimum 2.0 GPA. Amount: Full tuition, $5,000 to $1,000. Deadline: March Applications are available at www.FAPSC.org

American Legion General Scholarship: Student must be a direct descendent of a member in good standing or a deceased veteran who would have been eligible for membership. Deadline: March    www.floridalegion.org

Eagle Scout of the Year Scholarship: Student must have earned an Eagle Award and religious emblem in a troop chartered to an American Legion Post. Deadline: March

SAMMY Award Program: recognizes outstanding scholar athletes in grade 12 from high schools throughout the United States. Applicants are judged on their academics, athletic excellence and community service. Deadline: March www.bodybymilk.com 

Woman's Club of St Augustine Scholarship: Student must have 3.0 minimum GPA, good character and involvement in community service. Deadline: March

Give Kids a Chance: Student must have a 2.5 GPA or above, a family income which is less than 60% of the median income in the area which they reside, and have an interest in school and community activities. St Johns County Medical Alliance Scholarship: Student must be pursuing a health  career related field. Deadline: March

Alpha Delta Kappa - Delta Omicron, International Honorary Society for Woman Educators: Candidates are judged on a basis of scholarship, leadership and interest in the field of education. Only students planning to enter the field of education should apply.
Amount: $1000.00 Deadline: February. Applications are available in guidance.

Florida Association of Realtors Scholarship/Essay Contest for High School Seniors: Student must write an essay on the topic given by the Realtors Association.
Deadline: March

St Augustine Lions Club Scholarship: Application will be evaluated on service to the community, financial need, leadership qualities and academic achievement. Deadline: March

Georgia Bulldog -Alumni Club of Jacksonville -Vince Dooley Scholarship: Student is accepted and plans to attend UGA. Deadline: March

Marine Corp Foundation Scholarship: Senior must be a son/daughter of a US Marine on active duty or in the reserve, former US Marine or US Marine Reservist, who has an honorable or medical discharge or who was killed in the service of our country. Active duty or reserve US Navy Corpsman who is serving or has served with the US Marine Corps. A US Navy Corpsman who has served with the US Marine Corps and has received an honorable discharge, medical discharge or was killed while serving in the US Navy. Players Championship Scholarship: Applicant should be dependable, well-rounded, hard worker and participates in extracurricular and leadership activities. Deadline:  March.

St Johns Education Association Scholarship: Senior must be a dependent of a current SJEA member. Deadline: March

People for Peace and Justice: Scholarship to assist a student who has shown concern for social issues. Deadline: March

Garden Club of St Augustine Scholarship: Senior must be planning to major in ecology, horticulture, landscape design, landscape architecture, conservation, botany, forestry, marine biology, city planning, public sanitation or allied subjects. Applicant must have a "B" or better average. Amount: $1,000 Deadline: March

American Chemical Society Scholars Program: To be eligible a student must be African American, Hispanic/Latino or American Indian, academic achiever in chemistry or science, planning to major in chemistry, biochemistry, chemical engineering or a chemically related science. Amount: $2500.00 Deadline: March

Lauren Nicole Blomberg Scholarship: Senior must have a 2.75 GPA or higher, must be employed in a part-time job, and must plan on attending a two or four year post secondary school or vocational school. Deadline: April

Woman's Club of St. Augustine Scholarships: Senior applicants should be students who has been or have a family member who has been afflicted with cancer. Applicants must have a minimum unweighted 3.0gpa, good character, and have been involved in community service .Deadline: April
St. Augustine Elks Lodge Educational Trust Fund Scholarships: Recipients are selected based on the overall excellence of the student based on community service, extracurricular activities, financial need and academic achievement. Amount: six $500.00 scholarships Deadline: April

Florida State United Automobile Workers Community Action Program Scholarships: Any senior who is planning on attending college is eligible. Competition for winning the scholarship will be based on the best essay. Deadline: April

Sons of Italy Florida Foundation Scholarship: Students must be of Italian descent, have good grades and have participated in school and community affairs. Deadline: April

Amy Warshaw Memorial Scholarship Fund: Senior must be a responsible, caring individual who has exceptional character and community involvement. Deadline: April

Theodore and Vivian Johnson Scholarship Program: Open to students whose parents are regular fulltime or part-time UPS Employees.  Deadline: April

Ben Perkins Memorial Ministry Scholarship: Award is specifically for a student with intentions of entering the ministry. Deadline: April

First Coast Pilot Club of St Augustine Scholarships: Three Scholarships: 1. Hester's Scholarship (only one student from BTHS may be nominated) Emphasis on math, science and work. 2. Caldecott Scholarship: Student must be planning on majoring in Art or Literature. 3. Pilot Club Scholarship: open to all seniors. Deadline: April

Brooke LaDue Memorial Scholarship: Senior must have a 3.0 GPA or higher and be of good character. Deadline: April

PTSO Senior Scholarship: All BTHS seniors who meet the high school graduation requirements and are members of the BTHS Parent Teacher Student Organization are eligible to apply. There are five different categories of scholarships: Academic Excellence, Academic Improvement, Vocational/Technical, STAR, and Extra-Curricular/Community Service. The number of scholarships awarded and the amount of each scholarship shall be decided by PTSO scholarship committee. Deadline: April   Applications are available in guidance from January to April.

Phi Delta Kappa International Scholarship Grants for Prospective Teachers: Two $500.00 scholarships will be awarded to seniors who plan to become teachers. Deadline: April

Alpha Phi Alpha Scholarship: Senior African American male with a 3.0GPA or higher, good character, and qualities of good citizenship. Deadline: April

Bartram Bears Athletic Booster Club, Presidential Scholarship: Two scholarships, one for a male athlete and one for a female athlete. Senior must be a multiple varsity letter earner either in the same or different sport. Senior must also be accepted by an accredited college or university. Deadline: April

St Johns River Community College Scholarships: Academic Scholarships: Students must have a 3.2 GPA and an ACT composite score of 23 or a combined SAT verbal and math score of a 1080. African-American Leadership Scholarships, and Hispanic Leadership Scholarships; Students must have a 2.5 GPA . Deadline: May 1. Amount: The value is the dollar amount of in-state per credit hour tuition and fees, times 30 credit hours. (maximum annual amount) Applications are available at  www.sjrcc.edu/foundation

Capital Press Club of Florida, Barbara l. Frye Scholarship: Senior must be pursuing a career in journalism. Deadline: June

Delta Upsilon Scholarships: Male seniors who plan on attending the University of Florida. Recipients will be chosen based on their academic achievement, extracurricular activities and community involvement. Deadline: August

Florida Minerals & Chemistry Council Scholarship Foundation, Inc. The foundations goal is to assist worthy students in Florida with college tuition. Applicant must have attained a minimum SAT score of 1000 (critical reading, math) or ACT composite 21, and have a minimum 3.0gpa. Applications are available in guidance. Deadline: February

The W. Douglas Hartley Scholarship: 4 year all tuition scholarship to a Florida Public College or University. Criteria: applicant must not be a tobacco user, also leadership, financial need, strength of character and academic standing. One student will be chosen from Bartram. Applications are available in guidance.

National Association of Federal Education Program Administrators ( NAFEPA): Scholarship winners will be selected based upon the following areas: High school transcript, extracurricular/leadership activities, letters of recommendation, financial need and a 300 word essay.. Amount: Three $1500 scholarships. Guidance will attach the transcript to the application after semester grades are completed
